A Comparative Organoleptic Study of Lavandula Angustifolia And Lavandula × intermedia Chemical Composition and Aromatic Profile Analysis Based on the Organoleptic Digitizer | Aug-2026


This paper presents a comparative organoleptic and chemical characterization of two of the most commercially significant lavender species: Lavandula angustifolia Mill. (True/Fine Lavender) and Lavandula × intermedia Emeric ex Loisel. (Lavandin). Using gas chromatographic (GC) data processed through the MAMAY Organoleptic Digitizer 1.0 system,
we analyze the principal volatile compounds of each species and their cumulative contributions to overall olfactory impact, measured in val® units. The findings reveal distinct aromatic architectures: L. angustifolia delivers a sweeter, more refined floral-herbal profile with a total odor impact of 55.218 val®, while L. × intermedia shows a stronger camphoraceous and fresh character with a total odor impact of 56.953 val®. These differences have profound implications for their respective applications in fine perfumery, cosmetics, aromatherapy, and functional products.
